Our 5 Figure Music Mistake

Since starting to work in music full time, Krissy and I have made many mistakes.  All of them, we’ll probably share with you over time.  But, we want to share one mistake that cost us thousands of dollars and lots of wasted time.  This mistake was made about 6 years ago, but we are still reminded of this mistake today every time we walk into our basement.  Want to take a guess what it is?

The 4 Pillars of Your Christian Music Career

The four pillars of your Christian music career are:

1. Your Faith

2. Your Creativity

3. Your Team

4. Your Fans

Everything you do with your music are built on these four foundational pillars.  These are the four areas we are going to be writing about in our blog posts.  Each of them, without the other, does not make for a successful Christian music ministry or career.  And, each of them, no matter, how big your impact or reach – whether you’re a singer in your local church or have a huge global following, are not as effective if you don’t have your career built on these four foundational pillars.

What is the next most powerful search engine for music after Google?

If you are a creative person and want to share your work with others, it’s a no brainer, you need to have your content promoted on YouTube.

A personal success story: we posted Krissy’s song “Your Great Name” on YouTube in October 2009.  It is really simple – just the lyrics and the music track of the original version sung by our home church, The People’s Church in Franklin, TN.  This is the same version we sent to Natalie Grant, which she eventually picked up for her album LOVE REVOLUTION.  This video took me maybe an hour to create. The #1 Question We Are Asked

The number one thing Christian musicians or artists ask us is “Check out my music and let me know what you think of it.”.

We spend a lot of our time listening to your music and your creation.  And, we have great appreciation for the talents God has given you.

The number one challenge we give back to the artist after listening to the music is: how can we make your creation more appealing to more people?  Your music is meant for more than only to share with family and some friends.  You see, we believe you’re creation is meant to be shared with as many people as possible.  If not, then why does Jesus give us the charge to make disciples of ALL NATIONS?!

Due to some technical difficulties and to protect the privacy of what other callers shared on the call, we decided to cut the audio of our 2 hour call down to the introduction and teaching portions.  Total run time is just over 20 minutes.  We hope this is beneficial for those of you that couldn’t be on live.  Click the play button below to listen…

Krissy and Eric introduce themselves to the callers.  Eric shares about the pillars that make up the foundation of any music career or ministry.  Krissy talks about how our creativity flows out of worship to God.
